4649 is a curatorial project founded in 2018 by three artists Shogo Shimizu, Yuhei Kobayashi, and Yuu Takamizawa and is also the name of a gallery space located in Sugamo, Tokyo. Based on projects and curatorial initiatives rooted in the individual artistic interests of its founders, 4649 serves as a platform to foster exchange between the contemporary art scenes in Tokyo and other cities. The Tokyo space primarily hosts exhibitions by artists from other countries and cities, while its off-site projects actively showcase Tokyo-based artists.
Major exhibitions include Jan Vorisek (2025), Lucy Lie and Anna Rubin (2025), Raiki Yamamoto (2024), Tojiba CPU Corp (2024), Motoko Ishibashi (2023), and Alex Mackin Dolan and Jasper Spicero (2019).
The gallery has also participated in events such as Basel Social Club (2026), Supper Club Hong Kong (2025), Feria Material (2024), June Art Fair (2023), and presentations at the NADA Miami project booth (2018–2021).
