“Making” — Drink & Draw
This program invites participants to experience the freedom and joy of drawing through a croquis (model sketching) session, once a basic training exercise for art school entrance exams in Japan. In a venue where gentle music is playing, everyone can sketch at their own pace, enjoying casual conversation with drink in hand during intervals. On the day of the event, Nawa Kohei and volunteer students from Kyoto University of the Arts will serve as guides. Children, as well as people of all ages and backgrounds, are invited to share in this creative experience. Together, we will enjoy a relaxed time as we move between the acts of drawing and seeing.
Instructor: Nawa Kohei
Dates & Hours: Saturday, November 14 3 pm – 5:30 pm (Admission begins at 2:30 pm)
Ages: All ages(including preschool children with parental consent, and adults attending alone)
Capacity: 20 participants (first-come, first-served). Same-day participation may be possible if space allows.
“Making” — Experience Copper Hammering, a Craft with Over 100 Years of History
ACK will host a workshop led by a craftsman from Kaikado, a tea caddy maker that has continued for over 150 years. Using copper—the same material found in 10-yen coins, electrical cables, and cookware—participants will hammer the metal to create their own unique tray. Through the process of making, you will gain a deeper appreciation for the remarkable skill of artisans, experiencing firsthand how copper transforms under the hammer. Each participant will also receive a brooch made from tea caddy lids. Discover what it takes to create something that can last a hundred years or be passed down to future generations, through the craftsmanship and philosophy of one of Kyoto’s most respected makers.
Instructor: Yagi Takahiro (Kaikado inc.)
Dates & Hours: Sat. November 15 1:30 pm−2:30 pm, 3:30 pm−4:30 pm
Admission begins 30 minutes prior to each session.
Specific age groups: ages 6–18 together with a guardian
Capacity: 10 participants (first-come, first-served).
“Making”—Create Artworks (Products) from Various Viewpoints with Byproducts Market
This workshop invites you to create artworks (products) using byproducts as materials. Participants will freely combine a range of byproducts (“waste”) gathered from artists’ studios by both members of Byproducts Market to make original artworks. Try assembling wood, plastic, ceramic fragments, metal, and other materials using various methods such as gluing, tying, and wrapping. Let’s enjoy the creative process together, observing how each work takes shape through the unique perspective of each creator.
