Kiang Malingue

(Hong Kong)

Kiang Malingue presents a duo exhibition featuring Yang Chi-Chuan and Faye Wei Wei for the Kyoto Meetings section of Art Collaboration Kyoto 2026. Marking the Japanese debut for both artists, the presentation highlights their distinct practices while tracing subtle affinities with Japanese aesthetic traditions, natural history, and spatial poetry.

Yang Chi-Chuan’s site-responsive installation suspends handcrafted ceramic avian forms—representing various birds—from the ceiling, merging the artist’s signature language of beading with the intimate experience of birdwatching with her son. Drawing inspiration from the literal etymology of torii (“bird perch”), Yang constructs resonant, wind chime-like sculptures, delicate forms that carry a quiet sense of imagination and blessing, transforming environmental observation into a performative, acoustic, and spatial encounter.

With a parallel innocence, Faye Wei Wei’s canvases operate as sublime visual poems that resurrect a mythic, premodern communion between humanity and the natural world. Enfolded by verdant flora and interwoven fauna, her figures encounter and fold into one another within wildly abstracted landscapes. Grounded in enduring Asian literary and artistic paradigms of romantic devotion, Wei Wei depicts a state of enchanted co-existence, wherein human presence and environment dissolve into an expression of poignantly unsettled harmony.

Together, Yang’s subtle architectural interventions and Wei Wei’s expressive pictorial realm articulate a shared meditation on dynamic ecosystems, sentiment, and the timeless impulse to render nature through artistic form.
