Perrotin
(Tokyo)
Perrotin Tokyo returns to Art Collaboration Kyoto with a solo booth by New York-based Japanese artist Susumu Kamijo. Kamijo works with the everyday—fruit, fish, birds, dogs—sieving motifs into form and emotion. Long known for his poodles, creatures that lean toward abstraction, he now turns to flowers.
These newer works carry Kamijo’s idiom: biomorphic clusters, flat planes edged with line, thin-lipped horizons. They recall the botanicals of ukiyo-e prints, now with a newfound gravity. Indigo flesh. A sweetheart neckline. Pistils press forward. The flowers, long an emblem of fleeting existence, are open, dramatized, full of weight.
Gallery Information
Perrotin was founded in Paris in 1990 by French gallerist Emmanuel Perrotin. Following the opening of its Hong Kong space in 2012, the gallery expanded by opening locations in New York in 2013, Seoul in 2016, Tokyo in 2017, Shanghai in 2018, Los Angeles in 2023, and London and Dubai in 2025. Through the development of these spaces and participation in art fairs around the world, the gallery has strengthened its influence in the global art scene.
