ShugoArts is a contemporary art gallery founded in Tokyo in 2000 with the guiding principle of “continuously offering artworks that resonate with those who cherish art.” Its founder, Shugo Satani, draws upon his foundational experience at the Satani Gallery, which was led by his father, Kazuhiko Satani. Committed to fostering deep collaborations with artists, ShugoArts strives to contribute to the creation of new value within the history of art.
The gallery represents a wide range of artists from different generations whose practices encapsulate their diverse talents and artistic visions. These include internationally recognized figures who have garnered attention since the 1980s, such as Yukio Fujimoto, Carsten Höller, Leiko Ikemura, Masato Kobayashi, Naofumi Maruyama, Yasumasa Morimura, and Shigeo Toya. The roster also features renowned photographers Tomoko Yoneda and Yuji Ono, as well as a new wave of artists who emerged in the 2000s, including Masaya Chiba, Aki Kondo, Lee Kit, Anju Michele, Ritsue Mishima, Clara Spilliaert, Yoriko Takabatake, and Atsushi Yamamoto.
We organize and present exhibitions with internationally active artists, allowing their unique expressions to be fully realized, and participate in art fairs in Japan and abroad.
