In our rapidly changing and increasingly diverse society, the ways in which art is received and the roles it plays are also evolving. This talk brings together key players from various sectors who sustain the art ecosystem to examine the current state of the art world, drawing on recent market trends and emerging models of galleries and museums as examples. The discussion will also explore new forms of collaboration that transcend existing frameworks, aiming to adapt to and support the changing roles and environment surrounding art in the future.

Vivienne Chow is an art journalist based in London, where she reports on the art market and the art world with a special eye on Europe and Asia. She is currently London Correspondent and co-author of The Asia Pivot, Artnet Pro’s biweekly members-only newsletter tracking key developments across the region. Previously, Vivienne was based in Hong Kong, building over 20 years of experience covering arts and culture. Her writing has been featured in outlets from the Financial Times and BBC Culture to Variety and leading art media worldwide.

WASHIDA was born in Kyoto in 1973. He received his masters degree from the University of Tokyo, where he studied art history. He specializes in contemporary art history and museum studies, and curates contemporary art and architecture exhibitions. He was a curator at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa from 1999 to 2018 and the director of Towada Art Center from 2020 to 2025. His major curatorial works for the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa include “Kazuyo Sejima + Ryue Nishizawa / SANAA” (2005); “Atelier Bow-Wow” (2007); “Kanazawa Art Platform 2008” (2008); “Jeppe Hein” (2011), “Shimabuku” (2013); “Starting Points: Japanese Art of the ‘80s.” (2018). He was the curator of the Japan Pavilion at the 57th Venice Biennale held in 2017 and Aichi Triennale 2019.
