Masquerade is a solo presentation of works by WangShui, consisting of eight paintings rendered in ink and oil on aluminum. The gestural yet delicate abstractions are mounted in an eclectic array of frames—some antique, some contemporary, and some unclear. The presentation plays with perception and paradox, exploring how internal and external cues coalesce to shape our sense of meaning.

Gallery Information

Founded in 1999 by Mónica Manzutto, José Kuri, and Gabriel Orozco, kurimanzutto began as a nomadic gallery dedicated to supporting Mexico’s emerging contemporary artists outside traditional institutions. From market stalls to parking lots, its early exhibitions embraced unconventional spaces, encouraging experimentation and collaboration. The gallery later established a permanent home in Mexico City, yet remained committed to artistic dialogue that transcends borders. In 2022, kurimanzutto expanded to a 6,500-square-foot space in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood, deepening its ties with the city’s cultural landscape. Representing 42 artists today, kurimanzutto continues to champion creative risk-taking, critical inquiry, and artist-centered practices across both locations.
