Gallery Collaborations

Mitochu Koeki was established in 1986 by Toshihiko Hayashi, the father of the current president and director, Daisuke Hayashi.
Over the past 30 years, we have handled a wide range of twentieth century and contemporary works of art from Japan, Europe and North America. As well as ceramics, which is a particular strength, we deal in lacquerwork, metalwork, woodwork and basketry, We have an extensive clientele, including major Japanese museums, overseas institutions and important private collectors.
We have worked closely for many years with the Victoria and Albert Museum in helping them to build up their collection of Japanese studio crafts and modern Japanese design. Since 1990 we have actively promoted the ceramics of Lucie Rie and Hans Coper, placing their works in Japanese museums and cultivating a nationwide network of collectors.
Our current ambition is to promote a global market for the various genre of Japanese ceramics including not only the works by modern masters and living artists but also Raku tea bowls by Raku successive generations as well as by Raku Jikinyū XV and the current Kichizaemon XVI.

Annely Juda (1914 – 2006) established the Molton Gallery (1960 – 1963) and then the Hamilton Galleries (1963 – 1967) in London before opening Annely Juda Fine Art with her son, David Juda, on 16th June 1968 in a warehouse space on London’s Tottenham Mews. The first exhibition was ‘Now Open: Important Paintings of the 20thCentury and Young Artists’ and the presentation of the twentieth-century avant-garde works alongside contemporary art has carried on throughout the gallery’s history.
　
The gallery became known for exhibiting works from Russian Constructivism, the Bauhaus and De Stijl movements, showing artists such as Kandinksy, Malevich, Mondrian, Tatlin, Gabo, Lissitzky and Rodchenko; something which was rare at the time in England.
Over 35 artists are represented by the gallery. Those from Britain include David Hockney, Anthony Caro, David Nash, Nigel Hall and Alan Charlton. International artists include Katsura Funakoshi and Tadashi Kawamata. The gallery also represents the estates of Anthony Caro, Leon Kossoff, Naum Gabo, Prunella Clough and Friedrich Vordemberge-Gildewart.
In 1990, the gallery moved to its current location at 23 Dering Street off New Bond Street in London’s Mayfair and remains under the directorship of David Juda. The gallery presents exhibitions of its represented artists along with curated group exhibitions.
