Rossi & Rossi (Hong Kong) and Satoko Oe Contemporary (Tokyo) would like to show the works of Tibet-origin/related artists of Tsering Sherpa (b.1968) and Kesang Lamdark (b.1963), Tenzing RIGDOL (b.1982) together with the works of other essential artists.
Tsherin SHERPA (b.1968) currently works between California and Kathmandu. When he was twelve years old, he began studying traditional Tibetan thangka painting. The artist represented Nepal at the 59th Venice Biennale in 2022 with his solo exhibition.
Kesang LAMDARK (b.1963) grew up, lives and works in Zurich, Switzerland. His search for an appropriate cultural space ultimately turned inwards and he came to understand and reconnect with his Tibetan heritage while living in the West. Lamdark’s Tibetan-Western identity lies in his ability to understand and find a balance between both cultures.
Tenzing RIGDOL (b.1982) and his family were granted political asylum in the USA in 2002. Rigdol is a contemporary Tibetan artist whose work ranges from painting, sculpture, drawing and collage, to digital, video-installation, performance art and site specific pieces. He will participate the show “Mandalas: Mapping The Buddhist Art Of Tibet” at Metropolitan Museum of Art from September 19 2024.
Naiza Khan (b.1968) works between London and Karachi. She works with drawing, sculpture, archival material and film to bring together ideas of land, body and memory. Her practice raises questions about old and new infrastructures, colonial history and collective memory. The artist was selected for Pakistan’s inaugural national pavilion in the 58th Venice Biennale in 2019.
Christopher Doyle (b. 1952) is well known as a cinematographer produced numerous Hong Kong films together with Wong Kar-wai. In parallel to the film activities, he produced collage works, and drawings.
Mathew Brandt (b.1982) lives and works in LA. His photographic works are like mirrors that capture the experience and traces of materials he used while producing.
