18, Murata is a gallery space in Shinagawa, Tokyo, directed by artist Fuyumi Murata. Its predecessor, mumei, operated from 2017 to 2020 within a shared studio in Kiyosumi-Shirakawa, presenting exhibitions by artists including Yusuke Muroi, Barbara Signer, Mayumi Hosokura, Yasuaki Hamada, and Yuhei Kobayashi.
Relaunched in 2024 under its current name and location, 18, Murata has presented exhibitions by Fumimaro Ayano, Shiho Saito, Miki Morioka, Margherita Raso, Yuu Takamizawa, and Ryo Ozeki, among others. The gallery also participated in Basel Social Club in 2024 and 2026, fostering ongoing exchanges with artists and art communities both in Japan and abroad.
In September 2024, 18, Murata established Numanohashi Residency in Bunkyo, Tokyo, providing residency and production opportunities for artists from Japan and overseas. Through its residency program, exhibitions, and participation in international art fairs including LISTE Art Fair Basel in 2025 and 2026, the organization seeks to cultivate dialogue across local and international contexts.
Through exhibitions, residencies, and collaborative projects, 18, Murata aims to create sustainable relationships between artists, audiences, and institutions while encouraging exchanges across cultural and geographic boundaries.
