The Cave: Exploring Cultural Resonance
Behind-the-Scenes of Oliver Beer’s Latest Monumental Work

Resonance Project: The Cave by Oliver Beer, which premiered at this year’s Lyon Biennale, is a monumental multi screen video work filmed within one of France’s most famous painted Palaeolithic caves. It incorporates songs from eight different countries, allowing diverse cultures to resonate and blend together within the work.
In today’s increasingly globalized world, art is also evolving through the interaction of diverse cultures. The exchange of ideas, along with a nomadic, cross-border mindset that transcends specific places or traditions, fosters the reinterpretation and re-contextualization of different cultural expressions.

In this talk, we will explore Oliver Beer’s works, which bridge cultural and temporal boundaries, delve into the background of his creations, and reflect on how we can sustain and develop not only art, but human culture as a whole, by preserving and passing on these cultural connections.

François Quintin (Director, the Collection Lambert, Avignon)

These works address both intimate and universal themes, such as the transmission of musical memories and the meanings embedded in our possessions. Beer’s art has been showcased in prominent venues worldwide, including the Met Breuer, MoMA PS1, Centre Pompidou, West Bund Museum in Shanghai, and the Venice Biennale.
