The Diversity of Art and Sustainability

In response to ongoing issues such as environmental destruction, resource depletion, and international conflicts, we are at a critical juncture where we must once again face the challenges of global sustainability. In this talk, we will engage with these issues through art, architecture, and fashion, welcoming individuals who are actively exploring sustainable methods to consider how we can contribute to the recovery of the world or support such efforts.

Speaker’s Profiles
 

Imamura Yusaku

Creative Director, Cultural Producer, Cultural Policy Consultant, Curator, Architect.
Research and practice in diverse fields of cultural activities from the perspective of Social Practice, Alternative Initiatives, and Creative platforms. Founding and former Director of Tokyo Wonder Site (2001-2017), the Counselor on Special Issue to the Governor, Tokyo Metropolitan Government, advising and supervising the cultural policy of arts and culture of Tokyo (2001-2013). Worked as advisory for international institutions, the Program advisory board of Haus der Kulturen der Welt (Berlin), United Nations University (Tokyo). A registered architect and have worked at Arata Isozaki and Associates (Tokyo), Bernard Tschumi Architects (New York), and was a visiting scholar, Columbia University (1991-1993).

René Redzepi

René Redzepi is the chef and co-owner of noma in Copenhagen, five times recognized as the World’s Best Restaurant. In 2021, noma was awarded its third Michelin Star. Redzepi has been featured in publications from the New York Times to Wired and profiled in two feature-length documentaries and countless national and international media outlets. His first book, noma: Time and Place in Nordic Cuisine, is an IACP and James Beard Award winner, and The noma Guide to Fermentation is a New York Times bestseller. He lives in Copenhagen with his wife, Nadine Levy Redzepi, their three children, and their dog Ponzu.

Chomwan Weeraworawit-Huang

Chomwan Weeraworawit-Huang has been working with artists and filmmakers in various capacities over the last 15 years, as a producer, curator and creative director. Chomwan has a PhD from King’s College London with a focus on intellectual property. In 2010 she founded Mysterious Ordinary, a creative studio and consultancy as a vehicle to create and produce projects with artists, filmmakers, architects, and designers. In 2016, she co-founded the brand Philip Huang with her husband and collaborates with the artisans in the Northeast Thailand to explore how traditional knowledge can be protected and evolved for the future through fashion, design, film and art. She co-curated the 3rd edition of the Bangkok Art Biennale in 2022.

Ahmed and Rashid bin Shabib

Ahmed and Rashid bin Shabib are both urbanists and researchers. For more than a decade, their magazine, Brownbook, has explored cities across the Middle East and the North Africa, with more than a million copies in circulation.

They were nominated for the Aga Khan Awards for Architecture in 2010 and 2018.

Additionally, they edited and wrote the publication “Anatomy of Sabkhas” for the National Pavilion UAE, which won the Golden Lion for Best National Presentation at the Venice Biennale in 2021.

They continue to lecture and teach at the Architectural Association, New York University, Zayed University, and Boisbuchet. They are graduates of the University of Oxford, specializing in urbanism.
