Galerie Marguo

COHJU (Kyoto) and Galerie Marguo (Paris), which represent mainly young emerging artists, showcase a group show with a selection of six artists. In this collaboration booth, we aim to highlight the harmonies and dissonances resulting from the artists’ similarities and contrasts, allowing visitors to sense their unique perspectives.
Three artists from COHJU: Inspired by life and nature, such as the process and system of how plants grow, Mio Yamato makes organic images or installations through her simple body actions. Fumika Tsuchitori explores the relationships and distances between oneself and others with the poetic language of painting. Hal Matsuda uses VR and 3D printing technologies to expand the possibilities of art through reproduction techniques.
Three artists from Galerie Marguo: Fawn Rogers raises questions about contradictions and dissonances in civilised society, often using shells reminiscent of female genitalia as motifs; Oh de Laval, known for a satirical painting style that is both pop-inspired and subtly evil, reflecting the influences of mass culture; James Prapaithong, who focuses on the narrative and linguistic aspects of landscape painting, veiling personal memories and stories beneath the surface.

COHJU was established by owner Hideyuki Nishieda in February 2008 in a building designed by a prominent architect, Kisho Kurokawa, in a historical and cultural area, in front of the Kyoto Imperial Palace. First several years, the gallery mainly held exhibitions of mid-career Japanese artists such as Takesada Matsutani. As Kyoto’s art scene has flourished with young emerging artists since 2014, the gallery started focusing on promoting young artists based in the Kansai region.
　
The gallery presents 4 to 5 exhibitions including group shows that feature outstanding artists who have just graduated as well as participates in 5 to 6 art fairs in Asia, Europe, and North America to showcase cutting-edge projects to the international art scenes.
　
COHJU remodeled the gallery space in 2021, succeeding Kisho’s style but adapting today’s various types of projects. The gallery aims to make progress with artists, and also keep discovering splendid talents.

Galerie Marguo

Founded in 2020 by Vanessa Guo and Jean-Mathieu Martini, Galerie Marguo is a contemporary art gallery located in Paris’ Marais district. An experiment in hybridity and contradictions, the Marguo project is a multifaceted engagement in the arts and hospitality situated across local, global, and digital contexts, guided by Guo and Martini’s belief in the inextricable relationship between art and life.
　
Centered upon emerging or early-career artists from around the world, Marguo runs a dynamic, annual program of rotating exhibitions in Paris alongside its production of off-site projects. Coupled with its publication line, Marguo Books, the gallery’s international presence and wide-reaching relationships have paved the way for exciting commercial and institutional opportunities for artists across North America, Europe, and Asia.
　
In July 2023, Marguo opened its first artist residency and salon, Casa Marguo. Nestled within a traditional townhouse in Mahon, Menorca, Casa Marguo merges studio and exhibition space into a singular, domestic environment, facilitating new modes of engaging with contemporary art for artists and visitors alike. Marguo’s expansion continued in 2024 with Bar Saka, a craft cocktail bar steps away from the gallery grounds, with aims to further elevate the cultural experience for its global audience passing through.
